Our Story
"The Prescription", Southern Vermont's favorite band began more than 20 years ago when Peter King, a physician and guitar player in the band "Midlife Crisis", was given voice lessons as a birthday present. Kerry Ryder-Parke, a folk singer with classical training, was that teacher. King recognized her talent and soon drafted her into the band. Mike Vecellio, a keyboardist and bass player along with Shantia Mayer, a talented vocalist and keyboard player rounded out the ensemble; bringing joy to audiences for many years to come.
Fast forward to 2023, The Prescription with the Side Effect Horns morphed into the area's premier band. The band covers popular musical hits in various genres, including classic rock 'n roll, rhythm and blues, soul, funk and swing with high-energy and excitement! The current line-up of musicians are Dr. Peter King, guitar-keyboards-vocals, Kerry Ryder-Parke, vocals-bass guitar, Heather Frechette, keyboard-vocals, Jessica Savoy, bass guitar-vocals, Bruce Dayton, guitar-vocals, Dave Newell, vocals-percussion and Chris Lauzon on drums. Matt Steckler, saxophone and Dave McKenzie, trumpet, are the "Side Effect Horns" and bring a decidedly extra flavor to the band with their sonorous sounds.
